Scope of this policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the Android application BudgetVault (“BudgetVault”, “the app”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) accesses, stores, uses, and shares information.
BudgetVault is designed as a local-first budgeting tool for wallets, income, expenses, transfers, categories, budgets, savings goals, reminders, reports, exports, and backups.
Information handled by the app
The app may process the information you enter or create, including:
BudgetVault does not require you to create an online account and does not ask for your name, phone number, precise location, contacts, photos, microphone recordings, or advertising identifier for its core functionality.
How information is used
- To calculate wallet balances, summaries, charts, budgets, goals, and reports.
- To save your settings and display the app in your selected language, theme, and currency.
- To schedule reminders and show local notifications you enable.
- To generate reports and backup files after you request them.
- To protect access to local app data using optional PIN and device biometric features.
We do not use your financial records for advertising, profiling, or sale.
Internet access and external services
Most BudgetVault features work locally. The app uses internet access for limited supporting functions:
- Exchange-rate updates: the app may request public currency conversion rates from ExchangeRate-API through the endpoint used by the app. The request does not include your transactions, wallet names, balances, notes, budgets, goals, or backup contents. As with normal internet traffic, the service provider may receive technical information such as your IP address and request metadata under its own privacy practices.
- Google Play in-app updates: the app may contact Google Play to check whether a newer version is available. Google’s handling of information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
BudgetVault currently contains no advertising SDK and no third-party analytics SDK.
Android permissions
- Internet: used for exchange-rate refreshes and Google Play update checks.
- Notifications: used only to show reminders and alerts you enable. You can deny or disable notifications at any time.
- Exact alarms: used when necessary to deliver scheduled reminders at the chosen time, subject to Android system controls.
- Boot completed: used to restore locally configured reminder schedules after your device restarts or its time settings change.
The app uses Android’s system file picker for exports and backups. This lets you select a destination without granting broad access to all files on your device.
Security
- Core records are stored in the app’s private local database.
- Android application backup is disabled for the app package.
- An enabled app PIN is stored as a salted hash rather than plain text.
- Biometric verification is handled by Android and the device’s secure biometric system; BudgetVault does not receive or store raw fingerprint or face data.
- Files are shared through Android content URIs with temporary access where supported.
No method of electronic storage is completely risk-free. Keep your device protected, install trusted software only, and store exported files securely.
Data retention and deletion
Local data remains on your device until you edit or delete it, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall BudgetVault. The app does not maintain a remote user account containing your financial records.
Files you export or back up remain wherever you saved or shared them. Deleting app data does not automatically delete copies stored in Downloads, another folder, cloud storage, email, or a messaging service. Those copies must be removed from their destination separately.
Children’s privacy
BudgetVault is a general personal finance utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through an account or server because the app does not provide an online account system.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when app features, data practices, legal requirements, or third-party services change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when a material revision is published.
